Koik family
Märt Koik
c. 1821–1874
Märt Koik was Peeter Koik’s father and Elmar’s great-grandfather. The youngest son of Hans and Kert Koik of Kama Peter farm, born about 1821, he married Marri Riig at Halliste in 1845. They lived at Sönni farm and later at Kordimatsi, and moved to Õisu in 1871, where Märt died on 26 May 1874.

- Marriage and death found. He married Marri Riig at Halliste on 22 Mar 1845 and died at Euseküll on 26 May 1874, aged 53. Euseküll deaths of Halliste-parish people were entered in the Halliste register, which is why the Paistu searches missed him. The household-book remark first read "12 Dec" or "12 Oct" is probably "26 Mai".
- Earlier note (superseded): the household book EAA.1275.1.546 img 70 (p. 67) carries two margin remarks: "1871 Euseküll gest. 12 Dec(?) [or 2 Oct?] 74", between the rows of Märt and Mari, and "gest. 31 Juli 1885", directly under Mari's row. Probably Märt d. 1874 (after a move to Euseküll in 1871) and Mari d. 31 Jul 1885, but neither is in the Paistu or Halliste death registers searched so far. Next: Paistu deaths Oct–Dec 1874 (EAA.1286.1.361).
- Children per the household book: Hans (1846), Peter (1849), Els (about 1851), Märt (1860). Homes: Kama Peter (1826, 1834), Sönni (1849–50), Kordimatsi (1858).
- Youngest of four sons of Hans Koik (K-019) and Kert, Endrik's daughter (K-020). The surname is already written as "Koik" in the 1826 list.
- Not to be confused with Märt Kuik, Hans's son (b. about 1808, wife Tina, son Johann b. about 1834), at Sönni 3 in 1858 (EAA.1865.3.174/4 img 12, SL-101): the "Märt b. 1809 with wife Tiina" in the household book is that man. Both are "Hans's son"; they may be cousins.
- His marriage to Mari (about 1843–45, Halliste) is not yet found.
