The Leoke and Koik FamiliesFrom Estonia to America
Overview

How the two families connect

Where the two families came from, and how they joined.

Both families came from what is now Viljandi County. The Leokes, whose forebears were landless peasants on the Vana-Võidu manor estate, became a town family who ran Viljandi’s first Estonian bookshop. The Koiks were a rural working family with roots in the Kariste estates of Halliste parish. Parish records trace their movements through Paistu and Halliste to Karksi manor.
